Wellington update

As reported in the last Wellington Update a group of disability organisations met in Wellington recently to discuss concerns about the sector. One of the resolutions at the meeting was to put our concerns before the Minister of Disability Issues, Ruth Dyson, which we did on 11 August. We had a frank discussion with her and she suggested that we meet again on 30 August with the new acting head of the Ministry of Healths Disability Services Directorate, Suzanne Win, who is taking over from Caro

It was great to see so many people at our recent meeting in Rotorua. We had a record turnout for a general meeting, with 60 registrations. A big thank you must go to those members who were willing to stand up and share their experiences about developing Community Participation services, Minimum Wage Exemption processes and Leadership Programme projects. They provided some excellent practical examples for us all to learn from..

Over the past month the Conference Committee has been flat out making the final preparations for the VASS Conference in October. I hope you are all surviving the cold snap and are managing to avoid all the colds and flu’s that are going round. It was good to see many of you at our recent meeting in New Plymouth.
