Staff Matter
19 September 2001
by Tess Casey

Members of VASS got together in Auckland in June for the second of three 'mini' conferences held throughout the year.

The theme of the conference was "Staff Matter" and speakers included Andrew Norton (General Manager Human Resources, Waitemata Health) and Winston Pond (Leadership Solutions Ltd).  The focus on staff highlighted two common problems faced by members: accessing appropriate staff training and attracting and retaining quality staff.

To try and address these issues VASS is looking at initiating a programme of "staff exchanges" between member organisations. Members are also being asked to conduct exit interviews with departing staff, the results of which will be collated by VASS to see if any sectoral issues emerge.
