Primary Health Organisations
21 April 2003
by Tess Casey

Health Minister, Annette King, has announced that 22 new PHOs have been set up and...

began operating on 1 April.  This brings the total number of PHOs to 34, and an estimated 1 million people are receiving their primary healthcare through them.  Most of the PHOs are funded under the Access formula which allows patients to be charged low fees.  If you are wondering how PHOs work or are considering whether your organisation could become involved in one, then have a look at www.beehive.govt.nz/ViewDocument.cfm?DocumentID=16380  At the end of the press release is a good question and answer sheet.
