Conference 2003 Newsletter #1

Delegates were welcomed to the 2nd VASS Conference yesterday with a Powhiri from the Wellington Tenths Trust (Te Atiawa). Delegates have come from as far as Invercargill and Whangarei, and we hope you all enjoy you stay in Wellington.

The Art Exhibition in the downstairs foyer is an example of the outstanding talent of many of the clients in our services.

The first sale of the exhibition was made while the Conference Committee were still unpacking the works and arranging them for display.

The painting sold is one of several by Allan Hegan from Dunedin Community Care Trust.  Apparently Allan is not that fond of painting, regarding it only as something he can do to earn money.   He must do fairly well if his works are as popular in Dunedin as they are at our Conference.

Take 5, Te Whare Marama and Petone Art House are the other services to provide works for the exhibition.  If you are interested in purchasing an artwork sales contacts are listed beside each painting .

Housekeeping Matters…

Don’t forget to register for one of this afternoon’s workshops, and tomorrow’s tours at the Registration Desk in the Foyer.  Some people have asked if they can flit between workshops and the answer from on high (i.e. Robyn) is that no, you cannot.  There is to be no flitting.

There is an extended Happy Hour at Gideon’s Bar, West Plaza Hotel (opposite venue) for all VASS Conference delegates.  Make sure you wear your Conference ‘dog tag’.

The VASS AGM at 4.00pm has been moved from the Lion Harbour View Lounge to the main room (Renouf Foyer).

If you would like a copy of Robyn’s welcoming address yesterday and are not registered to receive the Conference Proceedings, you can email her at robyn@gracelands.org.nz and she will send you one.

Questions Arising From Yesterday

Where did all the food go last night?

What is the record time for a delegate to register and then lose their Conference bag?  Answer: 30 minutes.

After years of partial funding VASS members were used to being left with just the crumbs.
