Success
Stories
L enrolled on the
Skillz 4 Life programme after having spent two and a half years
at secondary School being bullied. Her school work had suffered greatly and
she was lacking a massive amount of
self esteem. Her parents were concerned for her emotional
stability and wellbeing.
Strategies were put in place for L and her tutor during her
transition from school to course life, and
slowly L was able to identify triggers that caused her behaviour
to become disruptive. She was able to target replacement behaviours when she became overwhelmed
and her communications opened up. Her self esteem rose immensely and this helped her form
friendships and bond with fellow classmates. She participated more and more with class tasks and
was soon achieving academic rewards for her hard work and perseverance.
Having developed goals and objectives not only for her studies
but also life goals, L was able to complete
her National Certificate in Employment Skills (Level 1) and NCEA
(Level 1), as well as begin
NCEA (Level 2). With her goals defined she was able to move into
further studies elsewhere specialising in her eventual vocational dream.
Having now completed all her academic studies, L is
departing
New Zealand for the USA to begin work in her chosen field.
M was enrolled with Insight from late 2007, and in his time here he has completed both his NCEA Level 1 & 2, and has also completed the National Certificate in Employment Skills Level 1. In early 2009, M went on to study in the Early Childhood Programme, although childcare was not his dream. Meanwhile, he was asked to trial with the Salvation Army as a delivery person, and made such a good impression that he was offered a full-time position. His family would often be in communication with his Tutor, expressing how much Insight had made a positive difference to his life, and how grateful they were for all the help he was receiving.
